The Meyer Lemon Tree is a great alternative to a citrus lemon tree because it is generally produces more fruit. It is actually a hybrid of the Citrus Lemon, Mandarin, and a type of Orange. The fruit is a little bigger and rounder than a true lemon and the taste is a little sweeter and less acidic. The Meyer Lemon is a little smaller tree than a true lemon. It does have shiny evergreen green leaves similar to other fruit trees and the flowers have distinct, pleasant aroma with a pinkish hue. It is the most cold tolerant of all lemon trees.

Care Information
Plentiful water is recommended, especially in the first year after planting. It is very important to establish a well developed root system. Fertilize at the beginning of the growing season in the spring. Avoid excess water consistently at the base of the tree. Prune in the winter.

Meyer lemon trees can be a great fruit tree choice when there is limited space available for growth since it has a compact frame and only grows 6-10 feet. It can be a great complement to other fruit trees since it has such plentiful and colorful fruit (bright canary) and attractive flowers. The tree would add a great fragrance to a patio or window if planted close by. You can also plant Meyer Lemon Tree in a pot to grow it inside or on a patio. This can be a good strategy to use in a climate susceptible to freezing since it would be readily transportable. Just make sure you give it plenty of sunshine.
